2 - "The Model
Home" - August 12 |
| Faced with the prospect
of returning to foster care, Ryan attempts to run away from the Cohen
house, but is thwarted when Seth discovers his intentions. Unwilling
to lose his new and only friend, Seth devises a plan to keep Ryan
in the O.C. – offering to hide him in his mother's unfinished
housing development. They receive an unlikely accomplice in their
scheme when Marissa joins them, taking on the challenge of proving
to Ryan and Seth that she is not the shallow rich girl they believe
her to be, and creating a deeper divide between her best friend, Summer,
and her boyfriend, Luke, in the process. The enclave the three of
them have built is destroyed, however, when Luke and his cronies discover
Ryan at the development, leading to a near fatal showdown when the
house goes up in flames. Concurrently, Sandy and Kirsten discover
Ryan has disappeared and question Seth as to his whereabouts to no
avail, while they continue to disagree about the appropriate way to
deal with Ryan. |

3 - "The Gamble" - August 19 |
| Sandy must once again represent
an incarcerated Ryan after his arrest for the model home fire. After
he is released, Ryan and Sandy continue to search for his mother,
Dawn, and Ryan is faced with the prospect of his mother re-entering
his life. With few choices before him, he agrees to give Dawn a second
chance and accepts her promises to change when she appears at the
Cohen house. In an attempt to solidify this tenuous bond, Kirsten
invites Dawn to accompany Ryan and the Cohens to Casino Night. Once
there, Dawn is unable to resist the temptation of alcohol and gambling
and fails Ryan once again; Dawn and Kirsten both agree that Ryan will
be better off in the Cohen household. Meanwhile, Sandy discovers that
Kirsten has lent Jimmy $100,000 to help with his debts, while Julie
simultaneously learns from Jimmy that Kirsten is now supporting their
lavish lifestyle, culminating in a confrontation between Sandy and
Julie at Casino Night. |

4 - "The Debut"
- August 26 |
| Ryan becomes a member of
the Cohen family when Kirsten and Sandy decide to take full, legal
responsibility for him. At rehearsal for an upcoming Cotillion, Marissa
sets Ryan up to escort Anna, and Summer is regretfully partnered with
Seth. When the dancing stops, the drinking begins and all of the kids
gather for a pre-Cotillion fiesta on the beach. As in a previous episode,
Seth and Ryan arrive to an unwelcoming crowd and problems arise when
Luke eyes Marissa and Ryan together, but Ryan resists the desire to
fight. Meanwhile, Sandy is approached by the SEC who explains that
Jimmy is the subject of a fraud investigation and Kirsten's $100,000
loan to him has placed the Cohen family in the spotlight as well.
At the Cotillion, Sandy's, Jimmy's, and Ryan's tempers are all put
to the test. |

5 - "The Outsider"
September 2 |
| Ryan wants to be less financially
dependent on the Cohens and so he gets a job at the Crab Shack, where
he meets Donnie, a fellow outsider with a connection to the past Ryan
has recently left behind. His worlds collide when Donnie invites him
and Seth to a party in the "old neighborhood." Ryan is reluctant
knowing the rough crowd that will attend, but Seth finds Donnie's
anti-Newport style refreshing and is eager to see life outside the
O.C. Additionally, armed with a paycheck and after some prodding from
Seth, Ryan had finally worked up the courage to ask Marissa out. Unfortunately,
the date is the same night as the party Donnie has invited him and
Seth to. Meanwhile, Sandy puts his true feelings for Jimmy aside and
offers to assist him with his legal affairs now that the rest of the
community has turned against him. |

6 - "The Girlfriend" September 9 |
| Kristen prepares for the
arrival of her father, Caleb, and his upcoming birthday bash but isn't
prepared for his girlfriend, Gabrielle. When Caleb criticizes Kirsten's
judgment about Ryan, the party, and the family business, Sandy pressures
her to take this opportunity to move away, return to their old life
and do the things she truly loves. Then, after Julie tells Jimmy that
she will be filing for divorce he faces more rejection when Caleb
turns him down for a job. Caleb is however very interested in a proposition
from Julie. Meanwhile, Marissa continues to waiver between her feelings
for Luke and for Ryan, but in the meantime Ryan is tempted by Gabrielle's
flirtatious advances; and Seth and Summer share their first kiss.

7 - "The Escape" September 16 |
| The Crab Shack where Ryan
is working is keeping busy with Marissa, Summer and Seth always hanging
around. Seth with his super sonic hearing gives Ryan the 411 about
Marissa telling Summer the Coopers problems and that Julie and Jimmy
are seperating. Seth and Ryan have a plan. Jimmy also sets up new
shop for his business with Kirstins help. We are introduced to Rachel
(Bonnie Somerville) Rachel is a lawyer and an old friend of Sandy's
who offers him a fancy law office job. |

| Kirstin takes Ryan to enroll
in Pacific Heights Private School and Marissa is on the verge of a
breakdown becouse we find out Marissa once suffered from anorexia,
an eating disorder. Seth and Summer enlist Ryan's help to save her.

9 - "The Heights" - November 5 |
| It's the start of the school
year and Marissa and Luke are still together. The episode centers
around soccer. Ryan tries out and the position he's trying out for
is Luke's position. A huge rivalry and match happens. |

Couple" - November 12 |
Sandy and Kirsten having
troubles and the boys are a bit concerned. Caleb Nichol is back for
a photo-shoot for a magazine and everyone joins him for the shoot/party
on Caleb's Yacht.
Julie and Caleb working on their issues and Marissa still in denial,
trying to get her parents to work it out and give back her perfect
home life. |

11 - "The Homecoming" - November 19 |
| Ryan enlists Marissa and
her vehicle to make a trip to his old neighbourhood to settle a outstanding
debt his brother Trey had before going to jail. Arturo a friend of
Trey is holding a vehicle, which must be worked on, to get it running.
Also meet Arturo little sister Theresa the girl Ryan on and off again
dated for years. Marissa and Theresa have a little getting to know
you conversation, which doesn't end so well. |

12 - "The Secret " - November 26 |
| Marissa wants to do a school
project with Ryan, but instead the teacher partners Ryan with Luke.
Everyone is preparing for a social gathering for Christmas, where
there's still bickering between Julie and Kirsten about Thanksgiving.
Ryan goes to Luke's house for the project, and meets his parents and
brothers. Later, Luke's dad "comes out of the closet". Because
of that, Luke and Ryan get into a fight but on the same side this
time, as rival footballplayers make fun of Luke's dad. |

13 - "The Best Chrismukkah" - December 3 |
| Ryan and Marissa go shopping
but they buy nothing as everything is too pricy for Marissa. As they
exit the store, a guard stops them and asks to see Marissa's purse
because, yes, she was shoplifting. Later, Ryan, still on probation,
and Marissa, a bottle in her hands, are in a car and the cops pull
them over for a broken taillight. He asks if they have been drinking.
He believes that Ryan hasn't but doesn't buy Marissa's story since
she has red-eyes. He asks her to step out of the car but... he gets
a call on his radio and lets both of them go. After the cop drives
away, Ryan gets out, opens Marissa's door, takes the bottle and hurls
it, slams Marissa's door, and gets back in the car. Marissa says that
Ryan is scaring her. Ryan says that she is scaring him. Marissa promises
she'll get help and she does. Marissa goes at a therapist office where
she meets Oliver, a young man going at the same school. They talk
to one another while in the waiting room. Seth tells Ryan that there
cannot be romance with tragedy. Ryan hold his stocking and wants to
hang it. |

14 - "The Countdown" - December 17, 2003 |
| Marissa said "I love
you" to Ryan and he was unable to say it back although he also
loves her. As he comes by the Cohen pool, Ryan meets with Hailey Nichol,
mid-20s. Both inquire on whom is the other, but Hailey says it doesn't
work that way since it's HER pool house. Ryan realizes that Hailey
is Kirsten's sister. Hailey hadn't told her sister that she was coming
back. Oliver, the young man from the therapist is back. Marissa and
Oliver talk about a party they will both attend with their boyfriend/girlfriend.
Kirsten and Hailey are in the master bedroom. Kirsten wants to talk
about the past two years, and Hailey only wants to decide what she'll
wear that evening since it's New Year's Eve. Hailey doesn't want her
father to know she is back yet. Kirsten says she has two weeks before
he comes back from Paris with the woman he is now dating, Julie Cooper.
Hailey organizes a a party at the Cohen's house and Ryan seems to
want it to end. He goes to the master bedroom where he finally finds
Hailey (who doesn't want to let him in) chatting with a friend, Yvette
to whom she owes a lot of money. Seth seems to have decided to be
friends with both Anna and Summer. The latter seems ready to move
on, but Anna still has feelings for him. Ryan will not go to the New
Year's party with Marissa and Oliver (don't know what's the cause,
maybe he made the decision or maybe it's because Hailey locked Seth
and Ryan in the poolhouse!). Oliver seems to be alone (my guess is
that when he told Marissa he had a girlfriend, it was just a show
so she doesn't know right away he was interested. Marissa and Oliver
alone at a party... will the love triangle become a square? |

15 - "The Third Wheel" - January 07, 2004 |
| Oliver is supposed to get
the gang into a club to hear a band. There is some initial trouble
with the bouncer, but apparently it's all resolved because later on
they are in the club. Anna and Summer bond over the Golden Girls.
Seth is ignored by the barkeeper. Oliver is busted by an undercover
cop for trying to buy coke. And after Luke's tires are slashed |

| Sandy tries to get Jimmy
a job at the firm. Caleb and Julie return from Europe. Kirsten talks
to Julie about her family. Oliver, Marissa and Ryan go golfing. Marissa
has told Oliver all about Ryan's past and he uses the information
to mess with Ryan's head. |

17 - "The Rivals" - January 21, 2004 |
| Sandy meets with a man
named Robert Mills who inherited a lighthouse when his father died.
Mills has to sell the lighthouse. Jimmy arrives on the scene and Sandy
introduces him as his partner. Jimmy is scared of ruining his friendship
with Sandy. Something (don't know yet if it's good or bad) happened
between Ryan and Marissa. Oliver and Ryan talk about it in the student
lounge. Sandy and Kirsten meet with Dr. Joyce Kim at Harbor School.
Ryan broke into Dr. Kim's office to read Oliver's file. He will have
to go in front of the Disciplinary Committee. Suspension and expulsion
from the school are possibilities. Sandy says that what Ryan did is
very uncharacteristic of him. Ryan says that he doesn't trust Oliver
and wanted to know more about him because Oliver is unstable and Ryan
wants to protect Marissa. We learn more about Oliver (suicide attemp,
restraining orders against him, and why Harbor School agreed to have
him, etc.). Ryan gets detention until the committee makes its decision.

18 - "The Truth" - February 11, 2004 |
Sandy & Seth have a
convo...Sandy confesses he's worried about what's going on with Ryan.
Seth says "be your Sandy Cohen self. He'll come to you when he's
ready." - Sandy & Kirsten have a convo about Ryan. Now it
seems as if Kirsten is the one who's telling Sandy "things will
work out". - Sandy & Kirsten arrive at Kirsten's office.
Upon arrival, they find three workman there...one says that Kirsten
is not supposed to be here. Julie is behind all of this. Julie hands
Kirsten flowers and Kirsten asks what's going on... - Marissa and
Oliver are staying in a penthouse suite at the Four Seasons. Marissa
goes down to the front desk, asking if anyone left a bag for her.
Marissa realizes she recognizes the concierges name (Natalie) for
some reason. Concierge says she used to babysit Oliver. Marissa asks
her her last name...and somehow Marissa recognizes it and it's not
good... - Marissa, shaken up from seeing the concierge, goes back
to Oliver's suite. Oliver is just getting out of the shower, wondering
where Marissa was. - Luke shows up at Julie's place? Something to
do with Marissa. - Back to the Four Seasons: Ryan and Sandy are there.
Apparently they're calling the suite, nobody's answering. Sandy goes
up to the front desk...identifies himself, says they got an emergency
call from someone inside the penthouse 20 mins ago. Ryan recognizes
the concierge/Natalie as well. She asks if he's a friend of Olivers,
he nods and she leads them up to the penthouse... - Natalie knocks
on the door and Oliver freaks out. Marissa is hopeful that someone's
there to help her. Oliver says not to come in, he just got out of
the shower...Marissa is pleading with him and he points the gun at
her. Natalie/concierge says things are fine, Ryan and Sandy are discouraged.
Ryan pleads with Natalie to open the door...Sandy says we're leaving.
- Ryan calls out Marissa's name twice. Silence. Sandy puts his hand
on Ryan's shoulder and says "let's go". Before Ryan turns,
he hears Marissa's voice "RYAN! HE'S GOT A GUN!". Ryan and
Sandy stare at each other and Sandy instructs Natalie to call security.
- Back in the hotel room, Oliver is swinging the gun around and yelling
at Marissa... OLIVER: Why did you do that? Why?!? MARISSA (in tears):
I'm sorry. I want to help you but I can't do it by myself. I can't
be the only one. Please. Just put the gun away, and let them in. Oliver
puts the gun to his head. OLIVER: Promise me you won't leave! Promise!
- Two security officers come in...one tells Oliver to put the gun
down. Ryan and Sandy are also behind them. Marissa calls out to Ryan.
Oliver says to the cops, "you're gonna shoot me? Here, let me
save you the trouble." Oliver puts his finger on the trigger,
cries and says to Marissa..."I'm sorry."

19 - "The Heartbreak"

| Seth and Summer had sex.
She says that love hurts as she rubs her sore leg. Marissa tells Summer
that she doesn't know what is going between "us" (us surely
referring to her and Ryan). Jimmy goes to a beah front apartment where
a dread-locked glassy-eyed surfer chick in her mid-20s named Alexis
opens the door and asks if he's a cop. He's actually looking for Hailey
who now lives there. He tracked down Hailey so he gets her cookies'
recipe for his new restaurant and so she becomes the first guinea
pig of dishes he wants to offer. |

20 - "The Telenovela"
Febuary 25, 2004 |
| The F Word is "Friends".
Anna and Summer stop being friends, Ryan and Marissa are still upset
with each other, Seth and Summer are not with each other at the moment,
and it is back to Seth and Ryan. Apparently some of the kids at school
don't know Seth and Summer are dating. Guys are still hitting on Summer,
Seth is jealous. Seth won't stand up for himself. Anna is still around.
He asks her for advice and tells Seth he's being a coward. More drama
with Sandy and Caleb. Caleb's doing something shady and Sandy's onto
it. Jimmy and Hailey grow closer together. Luke and Julie have sex.

21 - "The Goodbye
Girl " March 3, 2004 |
| Two new characters are introduced
for recurring roles. April is an actress in her 20's and another actor
named Grady. Summer, April and Grady are involved in some type of
acting for movie or tv. Julie and Luke are trying to keep their fling
a secret, but jimmy witnesses a moment of intemacy between the two.
Marissa pretends Ryan is a movie star to get into a VIP club. Hailey
and Seth see each other at the club and neither of them is supposed
to be there. Hailey is a stripper at the club they are at. Ryan gets
into yet another fight. This time it is with the bouncer of the club.
Jimmy appears and breaks up the fight. This is Anna's final episode
until she will return in later episodes to finish her contract. Also
Sandy is at the Country Club playing golf. He runs into Greg Hodes,
an attorney he faced when he was still with the P.D.’s office.
They talk about the lawsuit that The Newport Group filed against a
man. Apparently Caleb has hired Sandy to defend The Newport Group. |

22 - "The L.A."
March 24, 2004 |
| Paris Hilton appears
in this episode along with Colin Hanks. It seems that the
gang are on a trip in L.A. Ryan and Seth go to the Mermaid Inn to
get a watch that was forgotten there. The manager says that she was
a pretty lady the girl who stayed there... Ryan's girlfriend? Ryan
salts in the wounds and says no. Later, Ryan, Marissa, and Seth go
to a club. Hailey is there because she is working at the strip club.
She inquires about what Seth and Ryan are doing in such a club. And
Ryan says that if Kirsten knew what Hailey was doing for a living,
she would surely take her back at the house. It seems that Hailey
is also taking drugs. Ryan, Marissa, and Seth are thrown out of the
club. Summer is also there with someone named Grady. Something doesn't
go as planned, and Summer asks Seth to go back to New Port. Ryan and
Marissa sneak back in the club to get Hailey. They get intro trouble
and the manager and bouncer are about to hit Ryan when... Jimmy saves
the day! Will they hit a kid in front of paparazzis? He tells the
kids to head back and he'll give Hailey a lift. Not waiting for the
kids to even be gone far enough, Hailey and Jimmy hug. Luke wants
to have a chat with Julie, who seems embarrassed he came to the Cohen's
to talk to her. Caleb appears in the episode. |

The Cohen family prepares for a visit
from Sandy’s mother. She’s coming for Passover dinner,
but Seth wants to make sure she doesn’t meet Summer during the
festivities. He thinks his "Nana" won’t approve of
her, but Summer is out to prove him wrong. Meanwhile, Ryan desperately
looks for Marissa, who disappeared when she found out about Luke and

24 - "The Proposal"

| Seth and Summer talk about
room design. Summer comments on the fact that Seth doesn't like Home
Depot, cries during chick flicks... what next... walking in on Ryan
changing? That comment makes Seth like Home Depot and want to go there
ASAP. Sandy is at the Balboa Lighthouse helping set it for the grand
opening. Peter Johnson, from the Liquor Board, drops by. Sandy inquires
why the restaurant's liquor liscence has been re-neged. Sandy says
he can't open the restaurant if he can't serve liquor because New
Port residents are borderline alcoholics and that is where profit
is made. They did indeed provide all the required paperwork but the
newly appointed commissioner, a man named Steve Peiser, was one of
the men Jimmy was giving financial advice to and stole a quarter of
a million from... Johnson suggests that Jimmy steps down because no
fellon will get a liquor liscence. Marissa and Ryan seem to be back

25 - "The Shower"
April 21, 2004 |
| Seth and Summer have dinner
with Neil Roberts, Summer's dad, at the Yacht Club. Seth explains
what Chrismukkah is all about to Neil. Seth is very uncomfortable
and seems to say things Neil doesn't like or thinks are frivolous.
Seth also talks comic books... Summer almost wants to die as things
go from bad to worse... Preparations for Caleb and Julie's shower
(they're getting married) are going on at the Cohens. Kirsten gets
help from Cindy, Marissa's aunt, who smokes and talks about putting
on weight, sex problems, and Julie's Def Lepard phase! Marissa introduces
Ryan as her boyfriend. Cindy and Julie haven't talked in a few years
and is surprised Julie asked her here especially when the last time
they've seen one another Julie told her to get lost! Something is
a little off... Cindy wasn't welcomed here but it's Marissa who invited
her. Trouble incoming! Haley and Jimmy are dating and are ready to
tell Kirsten. Ryan pays Eddie a visit because he supposedly did something
to Theresa. Ryan listens to Eddie's story which is filled with deception
and heartaches. Sandy and Theresa arrive at Eddie's to get Ryan as
he's in a lot of trouble... The shower takes place at the yatch club.
Cindy, thinking the shower is a snoozefest, begins to ask questions
about her sister JuJu to the people in attendance... but the questions
lack a bit of taste. Julie has enough and leaves making sure to tell
Marissa that she had a "fantastic" idea to invite Cindy.

26 - "The Strip"
April 28, 2004 |
| Sandy and the boys are
planning to go to Las Vegas to "crash" Caleb's bachelor
party in Las Vegas. Sandy and Jimmy sold the restaurant to Caleb.
They meet with Jimmy's realtor who tells them that Caleb must have
sold it to Robert Campbell because that's what she's heard and it
seems it's going to become a mall. Seth, Ryan, Sandy, Jimmy, and Caleb
arrive in Vegas... Seth made the hotel reservation at the Hard Rock...
not Ceasar's (as Caleb wanted... but the Hard Rock Hotel has a Springteen
exhibit!!!) They stay in the penthouse in which there is a bowling
alley. Summer, who stayed in OC while the guys went away, calls Seth
on his cell... but what she hears through the phone isn't what she
expected: the voice of a lady saying Seth is a good kisser. Marissa
tells her that Theresa is coming over for a girls' night and they
can do whatever Summer wants to. What she wants? Go to Las Vegas and
kicks Seth's ass. The girl who kissed Seth is a 20-year-old university
student named Jenn. She invites the guys to come to a poker game.
Ryan will lose over three thousand. At the Hard Rock Hotel, Summer
asks Ryan where Seth is. They find him in the penthouse with a girl
named Jenn (a 20-year-old Ryan and Seth met on the beach). Summer
is pissed off and tells Jenn to move away from her man! Three of Jenn's
lady friends arrive at the Penthouse... what will happen when they
are asked to pay for Jenn's and the ladies' services? huh? Seth wants
to know how Summer feels about him because it's clear her dad still
doesn't like him. Jimmy is worried that Marissa may move in with Julie
and Caleb. Kirsten organises a party for Julie. Hailey drops by as
well as impossible hot "firemen". |

27 - "The Ties
That Bind" May 5, 2004 |
| It's Julie Cooper's
wedding day and it will be a day to remember for more than the blushing
bride. The wedding is only the tip of the iceberg in a series of
events that will change the lives of many in the O.C. forever. Also
ATO recording artist Jem – who recently released her critically
acclaimed debut album "Finally Woken" – will perform
Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" during the ceremony.
Sparks fly, emotions run high and lives are forever changed on "The
Ties That Bind," the cliffhanger season-finale episode of THE
O.C. |
