Pres. Bush apologized today
for interrupting Fox's broadcast of The O.C. Thursday's broadcast
of the hit series was interrupted by a press conference focusing
on Social Security reform.
"I did not mean to create
such an uproar when I scheduled the conference," said Bush
in a second conference this afternoon. "The FCC informed me
that a conference on Thursday night would only interrupt NBC's The
Apprentice, but they did not inform me that the hours given were
in Central Time."
The FCC gave
no comment, but documents presented at the conference confirm
Bush's statement that all the times were in Central Time.
Bush's latest conference
was not televised due to network contracts to air soap operas
at the scheduled time.
The
apology comes after teenage girls from across the nation gathered
in an attempt to impeach Bush on grounds of withholding the right
to free speech.
Sixteen-year
old Tracy Kelly, leader of Like Impeach Him, posted on the group's
website, "Bush is an old guy, so we've got to give him some credit.
I mean, it's not like he's going to know anything about The O.C.,
anyway."
Some
militant groups, however, are only increasing their efforts against
Bush. Kelly Duncan of ShutUpBush.com says, "Nothing's changed.
We just hate him worse because he interrupted our favorite show! America
needs a gag order on this guy!"
A Fox
News Poll taken Friday and Saturday found that, of regular viewers
of the drama, only three actually care about Social Security. Of these
three, only two saw the press conference. The third, a seventy-five
year old woman from Texas, was shopping that evening.
The cast of The O.C. had only a few words to
say. Peter Gallagher, who plays Sandy Cohen on the show, was obviously
unnerved by the entire situation. "This is the first real big
thing I've been involved in since While You Were Sleeping with Sandra
Bullock, and now the president is trying to keep me from acting?
I'm sick of critics like him! I'm sick of Bush!"
Fox plans to air the interrupted episode this
coming Thursday at its regular time.
