An extremely expensive Andy Warhol painting was
stolen from the Brentwood, California, apartment of "The O.C."
star Mischa Barton's wealthy boyfriend, Brandon Davis.
On April 7th, a thief stole Barton's Warhol
painting of Jackie Onassis. But, according to Aileen Agopian,
who specializes in contemporary artists like Warhol for the
prominent auction house Phillips de Pury and Co., it's not
going to be easy for the still-unknown thief to fence such
an easily recognizable work of art.
"It will be very difficult for somebody
to go to an art auction or gallery to see that, because there's
an art registry and people seeking to buy," Agopian insisted.
"Jackie Os go from a few hundred-thousand to multi-million
because it's the image that everybody's seeking."
Police sources tell us that famous art is so
hard to re-sell that savvy burglars in Brentwood often leave Warhol,
and even Picassos, behind.
Brandon, whose grandfather is billionaire Marvin
Davis, is a familiar face on Hollywood's elite party circuit. In
the past he's been publicly linked to everyone from President Bush's
daughter, Jenna, to Shannon Dougherty, to fellow heiresses Paris
and Nicky Hilton."
And this isn't the first time that
Brandon's had to deal with LA police. Last year, near Hollywood's
super-hip White Lotus Club, he was arrested on a misdemeanor DUI
charge, with the City Attorney's office contending that Brandon's
blood alcohol level was "significantly higher" than
the legal limit.
As for that DUI, the City Attorney's office tells
us that Brandon pleaded no contest and got probation. Neither Brandon
nor Mischa's reps would comment on the burglary.
