Nashville singer travels from 'The O.C.' to 3rd
& Lindsley
If musicians can
count on any surefire harbinger of success with the tween-hipster
masses these days, it's having a song heard on an episode of hit
Fox show The O.C. Lucky for fashionably sloppy-haired Nashville
singer Trent Dabbs, the trend-setting TV show has smiled upon his
song January Lights — from recently released debut album Quite
Often — for an episode in December.
It makes sense: Dabbs' Jeff Buckley-esque
crooning and unabashedly emotional melodic pop is as heart-meltingly
loveable as O.C. heartthrobs Mischa Barton and Benjamin McKenzie.
And live, Dabbs and his band aren't too far from the hit show's
MO: a little bit edgy but still cuddly enough for parental
approval. Dabbs performed here at home last month, opening
for veteran rock band R.E.M. — that association can't
hurt his career much either.
Dabbs plays at 8 p.m. Sunday at 3rd & Lindsley
(818 Third Ave. S., 259-9891). Thornton opens the show at 7, with
Joseph Arthur headlining at 9. Tickets are $8 for the 18-and-over
show and can be purchased at 3rd andlindsley.musictoday.com or at
the door.
